Native Plant Sale Pick-Up Details

Pick-up dates are Saturday, March 12 and Sunday, March 13 at the Tukwila Community Center, 12424 42nd Ave S, Tukwila, WA 98168.

KCD’s Plant Sale preorders opened back on November 15, 2021 and the response again this year was record-breaking.

To help improve the pickup process at the Tukwila Community Center on March 12 and 13 and minimize customer waiting times, customers have selected a 1-hour pick-up time. We have been reaching out to customers who have not selected a pick-up time. Please read the additional information in this newsletter about the pick-up process.

New this year you will receive notifications via email when you order is being packed, and then again when your order is ready for pick-up. We ask that you stick to your assigned pick-up date and time so that customer lines and wait times will be minimized. All orders must be picked up by 4pm on Sunday, March 13. If you cannot arrive during your pick-up window, please let us know. If you do not pick up your order, we will be calling you.

Pick-up Days Traffic Alert! Bridge Closure

Please leave plenty of time to get to the Tukwila Community Center. The 42nd St/Allentown Bridge is closed and you will need to approach the Community Center from the east via 129th St or from the north via 42nd Ave. Please enter the Community Center parking lot on S 124th St. Truck traffic may impact your travel, even on the weekend.

Click here to use GoogleMaps for routing assistance.

We ask that customers park in the main parking lot and walk up to the gym garage door located on the northeast corner of the Tukwila Community Center near the baseball field (see map). Look for directional signage indicating where the line is forming. KCD Staff will be available to direct you to parking and the line.

Please bring your order number with you on your phone or printed out. Upon picking up your order, we ask that you check the contents of your order carefully before you leave to make sure there are no errors. If there are errors, please see KCD Staff at the information table before leaving the Tukwila Community Center.

If you have any questions about your order, please contact plantsale@kingcd.org or call 425-773-0320 and leave a message.

Additional Small Forest Webinars Offered Through April

South Sound Conservation Districts’ Forestry Education Series

March 17 - Multi-Benefit Forestry: Climate Resilience, Wildlife Habitat, and Future Growth, Oh My!

Want to manage your forest for more than one goal? Not sure how to improve tree vigor and growth while providing for wildlife habitat and climate resilience? Let us talk with you about multi-benefit forest management options and how to mesh your property goals together to grow your dream forest!

April 21 - Riparian Habitat and Invasive Species Control: Seeing the Salmon Stream through the Weeds

Riparian habitat, the area surrounding streams and other bodies of water, is a common habitat type found in forests all across Washington. These areas are often hard to manage and easily overrun with invasive species. What can you do with that strip of trees along your stream? Learn about how you can improve your riparian habitat for wildlife and water quality and manage invasive species infestations.

In May (date and location TBD) we will have a forest field day at a local family owned tree farm to look at all of the elements of stewardship forestry that we have discussed during the winter webinars. Participants will receive a Zoom link after registering and filling out a very short pre-webinar survey.

Introduction to Irrigation Systems

Taught by Ryan Lichttenegger of Steel Wheel Farm
Saturday, March 5th from 9-11am

In this workshop, participants will learn about the three sources of water used for irrigation at Steel Wheel Farm–the river, cisterns and municipal water–and how they are used in conjunction with one another to provide enough water for the crops on this 13 acre farm. Ryan will talk about water volume, pressure, and flow rate and how that information, along with a lot of experimentation, has helped him choose what irrigation systems to use throughout the farm. Participants will have a chance to assemble wobbler heads, and (if timing works out with planting and weather) setup and install a sprinkler line. Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions, troubleshoot irrigation issues with other farmers, and leave with some irrigation ideas and resources.

Details:

  • Coffee, tea and a light morning snack will be provided beginning at 8:45am; workshop will run from 9-11am.
  • Please expect to be walking around the farm, so dress accordingly for both the activity and the weather. Please contact justine@snovalleytilth.org with any accessibility questions or concerns.
  • This workshop will run rain or shine.
  • There is a suggested donation of $20 for SnoValley Tilth members and $35 for non-members, to be paid at registration.
  • Each individual participant must register for this event.

Contact Justine Berk at SnoValley Tilth with any questions.
