An amazing year at Interference Archive!

Looking back, we never could've imagined what 2017 had in store for us. We are proud to have grown and accomplished so much with you, our community. We hope you enjoy this nostalgic look back at the past 12 months—and at the same time we ask you to keep coming back so Interference Archive stays thriving.

A glimpse of 2017 at Interference Archive:

Major exhibitions including Finally Got the News: The Printed Legacy of the U.S. Radical Left, 1970-1979, Take Back the Fight: Resisting Sexual Violence from the Ground Up (on view through December 31, 2017), and the offsite exhibition We Are All in This Together.
Collaborations with Gallery Aferro for Resistance Across Time, the Queens Museum in Commonwealth: Water for All, the Gund Gallery for Black Women/Black Lives and Zapatista: Imagery of the Peasant Revolutionary, and Ace Hotel NYC for Fair Food Nation.
Two print publications and almost twenty podcast episodes.
Participating in conversations with other archivists and activists, including the Society of American Archivists' Liberated Archive Forum; the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía and Red Conceptualismos del Sur's Archives of the Commons II; and the Museo Universitario Arte Contemporánea 2do Encuentro Internacional Archivos Fuera de Lugar.
A series of propaganda parties that brought hundreds of new visitors to the archive.
Over 80 major donations of archival material have been added to our collection.
Incredible growth of our online catalog through cataloging parties with the Cataloging Working Group and the efforts of the Born Digital Working Group and Occupy Wall Street Archives Working Group.
Launching Radical Playdate, making Interference Archive even more family friendly.
We MOVED! And, you all helped with an incredibly successful fundraiser to get us into our new home.

We're so excited for all that's to come in 2018 and look forward to seeing you at the launch of no. NOT EVER. on January 18. It's the first exhibition opening in our new space!

Movement spaces are for families

Radical Playdate has been a highlight of 2017, making Interference Archive an increasingly kid-friendly space. These events allow parents to explore the archive while kids play and create. Make sure to come to Radical Playdate in 2018.

Publications bring Interference Archive to a whole new audience

This past year we created publications related to the exhibitions Take Back the Fight and Finally Got the News, the latter in collaboration with our friends at Common Notions. You can buy these and other Interference Archive merchandise through the Justseeds store.

Interference Archive is a space for making things.

Propaganda parties give us and our network of collaborators the space to make and share graphic and informational material in support of movement work within our communities. Make sure to catch a propaganda party in 2018!

Audio Interference has been hard at work

Our Audio Working Group meets regularly to put together their biweekly podcast, Audio Interference. This project trains of volunteers to record the stories of people that donate materials to the archive, capturing the knowledge and experience of individuals or groups who have worked for years as organizers and activists. Exhibitions create opportunities for learning

We love how exhibitions allow opportunities for us and our community to dive deeper into specific issues and movements. This past year we saw our exhibition schedule thrown slightly off its usual course by our move, but that provided impetus for more off-site exhibitions, like We Are All In This Together at Purchase College (pictured above).

Archives are part of the conversation.

We love meeting and talking with archivists from around the world. We were so thrilled this past year to take part in conferences and conversations around the globe about how communities can play a role in archiving their own radical history.

no. NOT EVER. at Interference Archive
January 18 - April 15, 2018

Interference Archive is excited to partner with the Seattle-based collaborative If You Don’t They Will to host their installation of no. NOT EVER. alongside a curated selection of material from Interference Archive’s collection. no. NOT EVER. is a multi-media, interdisciplinary, immersive installation that provides an anti-racist, anti-fascist framework for understanding the rise of white nationalism in the current moment. This video-based “living archive” depicts a wide-range of rural and suburban organizing strategies from the 1980’s and 1990’s that say “no. NOT EVER.” to white nationalism in the Pacific Northwest.

If You Don’t They Will is a Seattle-based collaboration that provides concrete and creative strategies to counter white nationalism through a cultural lens.

Interference Archive exists because people like you believe in what we do. The backbone of this community are sustainers who make a regular contribution to the archive, generally of $10 to $50 each month.
