Honoring California Native Month
|
|
California Native Month (unofficially) is celebrated each September and officially will be acknowledged on September 27th to honor the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of the American Indian peoples of the unceded territories now known as California. This includes over 100 federally recognized tribes and over 75 more petitioning for their recognition, which is a testament to the great diversity in Indian country.
We would like to recognize the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe of the San Francisco Bay, which is engaged in a nationwide campaign called "Trail of Truth" to raise awareness about its efforts to reinstate its federal recognition.
Without federal recognition, tribes are denied essential resources like health care, housing, and education and cannot reclaim their ancestral remains and sacred cultural objects.
At IHC, we stand with all American Indians in the ongoing fight for sovereignty, self-determination, and restoration. In observance of this, IHC will be closed on September 27th.

Your Health is On The Ballot!
|
|
Voting starts on October 7th, and the last day to vote in the general election is November 5th. Across the country, and here at home, local elections will determine the outcomes of questions big and small. Many issues that affect your health and your community’s health are on the ballot!
The first step in voting for your health is registering to vote! Take 30 seconds to register to vote or check your voter registration online if you’ve recently moved or changed your name. It’s that easy!
If we are going to improve the health of ourselves, our families, and our community, elections are one important opportunity to vote for the issues that will improve our health. Clean air and water, safe neighborhoods, education, access to green spaces, and affordable medication—these issues affect our health, and they are on the ballot through the candidates and issues you vote on.
Your health is on the ballot!
