Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco & Deb Haaland Meet with the No Invisible Act Commission
Happy Women’s History Month. I am proud to be part of the continued movement by the Department of Justice and the Department of the Interior to implement the Not Invisible Act and combat the crisis of Missing, Murdered, and trafficked Indigenous People (MMTIP). Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco and Secretary Deb Haaland hosted the first in-person plenary session of the Not Invisible Act Commission at the U.S. Department of the Interior in Washington, D.C.
The Not Invisible Act, authored by then-Rep Haaland, was enacted in October 2020. It established the commission as a cross-jurisdictional advisory committee composed of federal and non-federal members, including law enforcement, tribal leaders, federal partners, service providers, family members of missing and murdered individuals, and survivors. This is the largest cross-jurisdictional commission ever appointed, with 40 members. Deputy Attorney General Monaco and Secretary Deb Haaland announced the members of the commission last year as part of a live event to recognize National MMIP Awareness Day on May 5.
