Community Health Partnership Board Retreat

IHC is a member of the Community Health Partnership (CHP), a 10 member consortium of community health centers throughout Santa Clara County. The Board of Directors had a retreat on March 3, 2023 at the Sobrato Campus for Discovery and Innovation where they heard from Santa Clara County CEO, Dr. Jeff Smith, on the direction of the county. At the retreat, the county reviewed, modified and approved the 2023-2025 Strategic Plan for CHP.

Hello everyone and welcome to our March 2023 IHC Podcast! We are so happy to have a very important conversation with CEO Sonya today. In honor of Women’s History Month, we want to shine light on the empowering work she and others are doing to advocate for all Indigenous women.

CEO Sonya Tetnowski is a mother, grandmother, advocate, and trailblazer in the movement toward justice for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW). She was named to the Not Invisible Commission by Deb Haaland and Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco, of the Biden Administration. During her tenure at IHC, since 2014, she has dedicated herself to serving the community both locally and nationally. We are honored to host her in this month's podcast. Her amazing story and empowering work she does by, for, and about the American Indian/Alaskan Native (AI/AN) is proof that a woman can thrive and succeed in multiple roles, while supporting and uplifting other women. Thank you Sonya for taking time to have this very important conversation with us.

To stay updated with IHC on the plethora of programs we have as well as information to schedule appointments for care, check out our website at www.indianhealthcenter.org. Thank you for tuning in today and we will be back next month. Stay tuned!

How do we Re-Indigenize Healthcare?

This March, Native American Health Center (NAHC) hosted a convening at their Oakland facility, to examine the work being done to address this critical question and explore possibilities for the future of health care for American Indians living in urban settings. Leaders from several west coast Urban Indian Health Clinics—including our very own Director of Development and Communications, Gerardo Loera—attended this gathering. NAHC's Chief Cultural Officer (CCO), Anthony Guzman, facilitated the discussion, holding space for attendees to share the challenges that agencies, such as Indian Health Center of Santa Clara Valley (IHC), persevere through.

This collective space allowed for the expansion of knowledge, exchange in ideas, and stressed the importance of culture, traditional medicines, and intentional holistic healing.

Stay tuned, as we will keep you abreast of this important conversation, as it develops.
