IDPC Special Alert
Challenging the patriarchy in drug policy

The violence of failed drug policies specifically and disproportionately affects women. Punitive approaches fuel and feed off intersecting forms of oppression that weigh heavily on women's lives, fostering inequality and entrenching exclusion.

From pervasive stigmatisation steeped in mysogynistic stereotypes, to a near-total dearth of dedicated drug services, and skyrocketing incarceration rates, women involved and perceived to be involved in informal drug markets face systemic and pervasive violence, discrimination and trauma.

Understanding and challenging the status quo, from a feminist, intersectional perspective, is crucial to repair and redress drug laws' shameful and unsustainable record of gender inequality.

The three events below, organised by IDPC in collaboration with leading voices from civil society and community networks, create opportunities to do just that. We look forward to welcoming you and encourage you to share this information widely among colleagues and networks.
