More than 120 golfers, including active and retired firefighters, community and company supporters of HFD, media personalities and friends of the department will participate in this year's Houston Firefighters' Charity Golf Classic which benefits the Houston Firefighters' Protection Fund.
The Houston Firefighters’ Protection Fund (HFPF) was created in 2006 to assist Houston firefighters and their families with incidental, emergency costs associated with long-term hospital care or extensive medical treatment due to injury or illness. In the event of a serious injury or illness requiring at least three days in the hospital, a check will be drawn from the HFPF account and delivered directly to the family by a member of the Firefighters’ Support Network. The family receiving this check can use these funds however they wish for whatever they need to provide for their loved ones.
The protection fund is solely funded by donations to the golf tournament and other private donations.
