After 35 years of dedicated and committed service to the citizens of Houston and the Houston Fire Department, HFD’s first full-time Chaplain Garry Blackmon is retiring. He has been the HFD Chaplain for more than 19 years, providing care to firefighters and their families.
Blackmon not only created the fire department’s program for a Chaplain which now consist of a team of “Firefighters Support Network” members, but has also been very instrumental in the creation and development of several other programs that benefit the citizens of Houston and members of the HFD. These include, but are not limited to: The Firefighters Protection Fund, Hurricane Harvey assistance to members, The Annual HFD Toy Drive and Give Away and the SAFE Congregation and SAFE Community. He has also served as a member of several committees and as a member of the Houston Fire Firefighters Relief and Retirement Fund Board.
