HOUSTON -This morning the Houston Fire Department introduced four new Engines, also known as “pumpers” in front of City Hall.
The new Spartan Engines are equipped with many safety features to include David Clark intercom headset communication system/hearing protection, backup camera with microphone transmitting sound inside the cab for the E.O., frontal collision airbag system, full curtain impact side airbag system, seatbelt pre-tensioner system to keep the firefights locked into their seats if involved in a collision, antitheft door lock system, in-cab tool brackets complying with NFPA safety requirements and IFS, independent Front Suspension providing improved ride quality and safety and long term health for our firefighters.
The decision of assignment was based on call volume, age of current apparatus and annual maintenance cost. Following training these apparatuses are to be assigned to: Stations 18 in Council District I – Council Member Robert Gallegos, 27 in Council District H - Council Member Karla Cisneros, 48 in Council District K, and 77 Council District A – Council Member Brenda Stardig.
These new units were funded through the 2017 Fiscal Year Operating budget and follows another introduction of new engines in January of this year.
