Apartment Fire in The Eldridge / West Oaks Area

Firefighters arrived on scene and made entry into a first-floor apartment unit where they encountered significant smoke and heat. The apartment unit was upstairs but had a downstairs entry. Crews worked to extinguish the fire and conducted a primary search. The fire was quickly controlled with smoke damage in the kitchen and throughout the apartment. There was also water damage from the extinguishment and sheet rock damage in the kitchen where crews checked for fire extension. It was determined that hot grease from the stove ignited items on the counter next to the stove. Crews from Stations 78, 83, 75, 76, 86 and 57 responded to this incident.
