4-Alarm Warehouse Fire in Central Southwest Area of Houston
WHAT:
Warehouse Fire
WHEN:
May 28, 2018 at 6:26 a.m.
WHERE:
13131 Almeda Rd, 77047
INJURIES:
4 firefighters suffered from minor injuries.
PROPERTY SAVED:
Firefighters prevented the spread of the fire to other nearby structures.
DAMAGE:
At least $200 thousand in estimated damage.
CAUSE:
The cause is still under investigation by HFD Arson investigators.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Firefighters arrived on scene with heavy black smoke coming from a section of a large warehouse building. The company collects used empty packaging and cleans for resale and about one thousand of these containers were involved in fire with possible trace amounts of chemicals.  A precautionary shelter in place was issued for several hours within a  1-square mile radius for citizens to remain indoors. Mutual aid was received from several fire departments, including Brookside, Manvel and Stafford. Public Works provided a track hoe and Metro provided buses. The fire was declared under control and tapped out at 11:40 a.m.
