Firefighters arrived on scene with heavy black smoke coming from a section of a large warehouse building. The company collects used empty packaging and cleans for resale and about one thousand of these containers were involved in fire with possible trace amounts of chemicals. A precautionary shelter in place was issued for several hours within a 1-square mile radius for citizens to remain indoors. Mutual aid was received from several fire departments, including Brookside, Manvel and Stafford. Public Works provided a track hoe and Metro provided buses. The fire was declared under control and tapped out at 11:40 a.m.
