4-Alarm Apartment Fire in Mid West Area

The cause was ruled accidental by HFD Arson investigators.

|
Firefighters arrived on scene with heavy fire coming from the first floor and extending up to the second and third floors of a 3-story apartment building. They began an attack on the fire and conducted a primary search. Additional alarms were requested and the fire spread to the adjacent building through the crawl space and breeze way. Crews worked to extinguish the fire and hot spots and tapped the fire out at 2:53 p.m. Three firefighters were transported to the hospital and two were treated on scene. A civilian was also rescued from a third floor unit and treated on scene. HFD Arson investigators were requested to determine the cause and origin of the fire, and the American Red Cross was requested to assist the displaced residents. HFD Rehab also assisted residents in locating pets in the affected units. Crews from Stations 2, 51, 6, 28, 68, 83, 3, 5, 11, 15, 16, 37, 49, 51, 69, 73, 75, 76,21, 24, 30, Hazmat and the Village Fire Department responded to this incident.
