2-Alarm Parking Garage Fire in Downtown Area
WHAT:
Parking garage fire
WHEN:
May 26, 2019 at 4:20 p.m.

1710 Polk St, 77003
INJURIES:
No reported injuries
PROPERTY SAVED:
More than $28 million in estimated property saved
DAMAGE:
$80 thousand in estimated damage
CAUSE:
The cause was ruled as accidental by HFD Arson investigators
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Firefighters arrived on scene with heavy black smoke and fire coming from what appeared to be the roof of an 8-story parking garage. Shortly after their arrival, a large piece of debris fell from the upper level landing on the sky-walk between the garage and hotel.  There was no sign of smoke spread into the hotel. Crews continued to attack the fire which involved two vehicles and a large phone sub-station. HPD was requested for traffic control and the fire was declared under control just after 5 p.m. The garage was re-opened except for the roof area. Crews from Stations 6, 19, 20, 26, 31, 7, 8, 9, 16, 17, 18, 24 and Rehab responded to this incident.
