Redress counts
A lot has happened at the Independent Redress Mechanism (IRM) over the past four to five months. The IRM continues to problem-solve its case in Morocco and the Secretariat is undertaking the last agreed action item regarding the IRM’s self-initiated case in Peru. The IRM successfully hosted the soft launch of the Grievance Redress and Accountability Mechanism (GRAM) community of practice and will be hosting the first GRAM webinar on 27 April which responds to feedback received in December. Following its first virtual outreach event of 2021 that took place in Central Asia, the IRM conducted its second outreach event in April for our stakeholders in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The IRM has also learned many valuable lessons concerning retaliation and Sexual Exploitation, Sexual Abuse and Sexual Harassment (SEAH).

IRM 2020 Annual Report
2020 was a difficult year for all, but the pandemic didn’t stop the IRM from fulfilling its goals for 2020. See how the IRM took unusual but effective approaches throughout this abnormal year: summary of the IRM’s achievements in 2020 and the IRM’s 2020 Annual Report.
GRAM Community of Practice
More than 100 people joined the soft launch of the Grievance Redress and Accountability Mechanism (GRAM) community of practice that took place in December 2020. Read more about who participated and what was discussed during the event here and email the IRM if you would like to be added to this community of GRAMs.
The GRAM Partners convened to discuss their plans for 2021. Based on the feedback received from participants who joined the soft launch of the GRAM community of practice, the Partners agreed to conduct webinars and produce good practice notes throughout the year. Read our blog and email the IRM to join the first webinar on the topic of ‘fit for purpose grievance redress mechanisms’ scheduled for 27 April 2021.
April Outreach Event in MENA
On 3 April, the IRM held its second outreach event of 2021 in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, in partnership with Arab Watch. Learn more about how the IRM utilised its resources to enhance interaction with the participants.
Updated SOP on Retaliation
The IRM has continuously revised its supporting operating procedure (SOP) on retaliation based on public comments received and lessons learnt through its various activities. See the improvements made to its SOP on retaliation here.
Update on SEAH Advisory
In 2020, the IRM prepared an Advisory Report that reflected on lessons learned from two World Bank Inspection Panel cases. The GCF Secretariat and many Board members gave positive responses, and the IRM shared its learnings from developing an SEAH (Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment) Advisory Report here.
Upgrading the IRM Online Learning Modules
In response to comments received from its stakeholders on the IRM’s online learning modules, the IRM is revamping the content and design of the modules while also translating them into Spanish and French. Check out the modules here and stay tuned for the translated versions!
New Leaders in the Community of Grievance Redress and Accountability

The IRM welcomes five new leaders of grievance redress mechanisms of the GCF’s international accredited entities: Andrea Repetto Vargas (MICI), Janine Ferretti (CAO), David J. Other Updates
The IRM is finalising its recruitment process for a part-time high-level communications expert and a social media consultant to assist with the IRM’s outreach function, and also an external consultancy firm to help with its capacity building function. With the help of these consultants, the IRM looks forward to more effective and collaborative work with its stakeholders.
