In 2016, FAI’s board of directors and staff released a Values Statement that continues to guide the organization regarding diversity, inclusion, access, and internationalism. These values are reflected in our strategic plan, program content, and resources provided for the extended folk music community. FAI continues to conduct board and staff training, is supporting board diversification training for each regional organization, and commenced a year-long process to develop an overarching Cultural Equity Plan. Anyone with experience in cultural equity work or representing a marginalized community who is interested in advising FAI on the development of a Cultural Equity Plan is invited to fill out the cultural equity advisory interest form.

As part of the process, this year’s conference will host a global summit focused on cultural equity, accompanied by affinity group meetings. Affinity groups are opportunities for people to gather based on shared identity, especially as it relates to minority or marginalized communities. Members and conference attendees are invited to provide input to help FAI determine what affinity groups to hold space for at this year's conference.
