Festival Ruska begins today!

Finlandia University’s roots are in Finland, and the university will celebrate those roots with an eclectic event appropriately named Festival Ruska. In the Copper Country, much like in Finland, September ends with an explosion of color in the forests. This is the season known as ‘ruska,’ when the autumnal reds, browns and yellows are especially beautiful on the fells of Lapland and it’s a popular time for folks to get out and enjoy nature. At Festival Ruska, Finlandia University is celebrating the arrival of the Copper Country’s ruska with a variety of cultural activities.

“I wanted to join Finlandia University to continue to help others further their education,” said Ekdahl, an advocate for the healthcare profession. “A career in healthcare will always be needed as our population ages. I’m excited to start my journey here at FinnU.”

Ekdahl, a veteran, graduated from Finlandia’s Medical Assistant Program in 2014. As part of that program he is certified by the American Association of Medical Assistants. Learn more at finlandia.edu/news

Sports management alum takes job with AHL’s Wild

Jason Aldrich (’11) was recently introduced as Equipment Manager and Strength Coach of the American Hockey League’s Iowa Wild, minor league affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Minnesota Wild. Aldrich is a 2011 graduate of Finlandia’s Sports Management program, and played for FinnU’s NCAA Division III hockey program.

“My time playing at finlandia is still some of the best times of my life,” Aldrich said. “I made some of my best friends that are still my best friends to this day. I cherish my time there and I feel that it really helped me get to where I am today. We had a lot of success but I think the relationships that I made and have kept are the most important to me.  I would not have the tight knit brotherhood that I have today if it wasn’t for my time at finlandia university.”
