Finlandia graduates 86 during emotional commencement ceremony

When Finlandia University students, faculty, alumni and employees talk about the small-school atmosphere, they’re often referring to the close-knit relationships you gain on campus. In late April, those relationships were on full display as the 86 students that make up the Finlandia University Class of 2017 were awarded their degrees in a ceremony that won’t soon be forgotten. Check out some links below for more information on the Class of 2017's big moment at the Paavo Nurmi Center.
This month’s Finlandia University alumni success story is focusing on Carley Saint-Onge – a graduate of Finlandia’s International School of Business. Saint-Onge is now working in marketing for Texas Instruments in Dallas, Texas. In this question-and-answer session, she talks about the world of small schools compared to big schools, digital marketing, business-to-business marketing compared to business-to-consumer marketing, what it was like to move to a new region and what she remembers best about her time at FinnU.

History Professor William Knoblauch releases first book

Finlandia University Assistant Professor of History Dr. William Knoblauch has released his first book, Nuclear Freeze in a Cold War: The Reagan Administration, Cultural Activism, and the End of the Arms Race. “Academics publish books all the time, and we don’t always see them gain traction publicly,” Dr. Knoblauch said. “This book has so far been different. People are already starting to talk about it, which is rare for historians.” The book has struck a nerve for many as it compares politics of the 1980s to today’s political climate.

Introducing the 2017-18 FinnU Student Senate

As another academic year ends, a new group of leaders has emerged for Finlandia University’s Student Senate, including four new senators and two returners. “Next year’s student senate brings a nice mix of experience and new vision,” said Erin Barnett, who advises this group as part of her role as Director of Academic Success and Student Life at the university. “Veterans DJ Skinner and Abigail Tembruell offer a bit of historical perspective, and the team of President Charles Patch and Vice President Kaylor Holmstrom bring a fresh perspective to the executive leadership positions.”
