NATURE FOR IMPACT CONFERENCE

26th March 2019, 8:30 AM - 13:00 PM  |  Dartmouth House, London
Transforming value chains and accelerating positive impact through nature-based solutions
With special guest speaker: Christiana Figueres

The International Platform for Insetting invites you to our free, half-day conference, to hear from brands such as L’Oréal, Nespresso, Kering and Chanel explain how they turn ambition to action and create net positive impacts along their value chains through nature-based solutions.

Recent studies show that nature-based approaches to carbon capture, including climate-smart agriculture, restoration and conservation, can provide more than a third of the emissions reductions needed to keep the global temperature rise below 1.5°C. Progressive businesses have begun to realise the vast potential of investing into nature which not only helps them reach their corporate climate goals, but also with building sustainable and resilient value chains.

This conference is designed to help you implement best practices as well as understand the business case for using a nature-based approach to taking climate action.

Water stewardship in agricultural supply chains
Many agricultural supply chains face water risks. Drivers include reduced water availability for irrigation, water quality impacts, floodings, as well as regulatory and reputational risks. This session will be exploring the sustainable management of water risk which is going beyond the companies’ use of water at farm level but that starts engaging the watershed. Focus will be put on barriers and opportunities of investing in nature-based solutions at the farm and at the landscape level, and general water stewardship guidance of managing water risks.

Moderator:
Alexandra Frank, Senior Consultant, South Pole

Panelists:
Chris Brown, Vice President - Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability, Olam
Scott McCready, Director of Outreach and Engagement, Alliance for Water Stewardship

Biodiversity, a business priority?
Progressive companies recognise the tangible link between biodiversity and production of their raw materials and that long-term security of supply can depend on maintaining functioning ecosystems. While there is a recognition of this dependency, there is still a dearth of practical approaches for business to measure their impacts in such a way that they underpin strategies to enhance, restore and protect natural capital. In this session Dr. Helen Crowley, Head Sustainable Sourcing Innovation at Kering and Lisa Walker, CEO at Ecosphere+, will discuss promising strategic pathways such as a biodiversity index and setting science-based targets for biodiversity.

Dr. Helen Crowley, Head Sustainable Sourcing Innovation, Kering
Lisa Walker, CEO, Ecosphere+
