After nearly 140 years – first as Children’s Home and Aid Society of Illinois, then more recently Children’s Home & Aid – we are changing our name. This represents the culmination of a major pivot for us.
Our path to a new identity began in 2020 with the introduction of our Blueprint for Impact and the creation of our strategic plan. The Blueprint and our strategic plan clearly state our commitment to focus on prevention, center families in our work and drive toward equity. Our mission changed from creating hope, opportunity and bright futures to advancing the well-being of children by investing in families to disrupt the systemic and multigenerational cycles of racial, social and economic inequality.
Our old name, despite being associated with more than a century of hard work, leadership and impact won’t accelerate our strategic aspiration to do more for those we serve to ensure solvable problems don’t become life-altering crises.
Our new name captures a clearer and bolder intention for our work. It is centered on our promise to invest in the most important asset for child and youth wellbeing: the family.
The broad array of programs we offer will continue under our new identity. We believe our new strategy emphasizes prevention and strengthening families and will accelerate progress toward our vision of an equitable world where all children and families thrive in strong communities. Your partnership has always been critical to the well-being of children, youth and families in Illinois. We look forward to our continued work together.
