From The GM's Desk

Happy Fall!  I hope everyone is enjoying the cooler temperatures and looking forward to fall activities.  I love the fresh apples, leaves changing colors and catching up with the visitors we host for home football games.  As our activities increase with the start of the new academic semester, I wanted to thank everyone again for all the wonderful contributions to WPSU.  As we continue to work on transforming our digital presence, increasing our local content production, and organizing our media assets, I look forward to seeing everyone in the office a little more regularly.  It really can be the best of both worlds and I hope we can have a hallway conversation soon!

All my best ...

NAB Pushes FCC To Adjust NextGen TV Broadcast Rules
A requirement that NextGen TV and legacy technology broadcasts be "substantially similar" should expire next year to speed up adoption of the new standard, the National Association of Broadcasters recently argued in comments on a FCC Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking. Wordplay
Shrinkflation, adorkable, subvariant and even pumpkin spice are now officially in the dictionary and that might make you exclaim “Yeet!” Those are five of the 370 words and phrases that Merriam-Webster added to its dictionary this month, the publisher recently announced. Oh yeah, ICYMI, short for “in case you missed it,” was also added. “Some of these words will amuse or inspire, others may provoke debate.

Our job is to capture the language as it is used,” Peter Sokolowski, Merriam-Webster’s editor at large, said in a statement. “Words offer a window into our ever-changing language and culture, and are only added to the dictionary when there is clear and sustained evidence of use.” [AP - 9/8/22]
