The killing for George Floyd was the tipping point that sent our nation into labor. Since his death, we've been experiencing the birth pangs of an America groaning from the pressure of something needing to be born.

The contractions are coming closer together now. As is the accompanying wails, tears, fears & the raw uncensored shouting from the painful transition signaling the crowning of something new & needful on its way.  Giving birth has always been messy work.

We believe the American Church is being called to midwife in this pregnant season of upheaval - to help birth a reformation in the arena of justice.

Shutdown, quarantine, & empty city streets have quickly given way to crowded paths, roadways & intersections filled with masses of masked gatherers, holding riotous vigil in the waiting room of hope.

The Church is being invited to leave the sidelines & take her place joining God on the front lines of racial injustice & inequity. To speak truth to power while working to dismantle soul & systematic racism deeply rooted both in the world & in the Church. To become peacemakers, bridge builders & agents of reconciliation in the long-ignored fields of pride & prejudice.

What if this is the beginning of the next great awakening? What if the revival we've cried out for looks less like spiritual euphoria from God's manifested presence in a meeting, & looks more like justice rolling down like rivers because of our presence in the streets & neighborhoods & boardrooms & prayer rooms & schoolrooms & halls of justice, working to effort biblical justice & end racism & in all its forms.

 IF NOT US, WHO?

This is an image from ground zero in Minneapolis where Gorge Floyd was cuffed & pinned down while gasping out the words, "I can't breathe". A follower of Christ is here praying that George's death wouldn't be in vain. Some of us on the national team of 24-7 Prayer are in Minneapolis to pray beside him.

  • This is a view of the street where George Floyd pleaded for his life. It has become a four-corner wide monument both to his memory & to the catalyst his death became. One that is forcing an entire nation to take a hard look at its history of racism & long-held apathy toward systematic injustices inflicted on people of color.

  • On the right near the mural where a crowd is gathered is an area packed several layers deep with flowers, candles, cards, balloons, gifts & posters. There is where we started a prayer wall on the ground & scattered chalk so that people could kneel in front of the memorial & chalk expressions of grief & hope. In less than an hour, the ground was completely filled with justice-themed quotes, scripture, art, honor for George, solidarity with blacks, & promises to fight for real change.

History brought us to this moment. If you're asking what can be done right now, we invite you to start by joining us & thousands of others across the nation in 21 days of prayer & practical action through this Civil Righteousness initiative. It's pretty powerful. You're going to absolutely love it. Learn more & register to receive free resources & to stay connected.

What does the long road of reformation look like when there aren’t protests in the streets? What does it look like when the news cycle has moved on? - JT Thomas.

24-7 Prayer is a catalyst for movements of prayer, mission & justice. We've chosen to make racial equity our primary justice focus for the United States now & in the coming years. We'll champion the partnership of prayer & justice, & launch prayer, learning, & action campaigns of all kinds to help the American Church understand the issues, take the second command into the racial divide, engage in racial reconciliation, & join God on the frontlines in the work of "on earth as it is in heaven' in the arenas of systematic racial injustice.
