WATERMELON GROWING CONTEST

 

It is time for the Watermelon Growing Contest sponsored by the Georgia Fruits and Vegetables Growers Association and the Georgia Watermelon Association! This contest offers 4-H'ers a chance to learn skills of farm management, along with initiative, self-reliance, and preparation skills. We are happy to announce this competition is now open, and 4-H'ers are encouraged to begin preparing to grow their best watermelons.

This contest is open to all 4-H'ers, Kindergarten through 12th grade, and only one submission is allowed per 4-H'er. This year’s results will be announced on Monday, August 3rd, National Watermelon Day.

*The weights for watermelons must be measured and verified by Troup County Extension Office, and all 4-H'ers competing must be registered by Friday, July 31, 2020!

Awards will be given to the top three submissions as follows.  Photos are required for the top three awards.
1st Place: $100.00
2nd Place: $50.00
3rd Place: $25.00
Carolina Cross variety is suggested, but not required for this competition. Seeds may be available locally or are available online (http://www.giantwatermelons.com).


 

Georgia 4-H Pumpkin Growing Contest

It is time for the Georgia 4-H Pumpkin Growing Contest sponsored by the Georgia Fruits and Vegetables Growers Association.  This contest offers 4-H'ers a chance to learn skills of farm management, along with initiative, self-reliance, and preparation skills.  We are happy to announce this competition is now open, and 4-H'ers are encouraged to begin preparing to grow their largest pumpkins.  The Pumpkin Growing Contest webpage can be accessed at georgia4h.org/pumpkin.

This contest is open to all 4-H'ers, kindergarten through 12th grade, and only one submission is allowed per 4-H'er.  All entries must be submitted by Wednesday, October 21, 2020.  This year’s results will be announced on Monday, October 26, 2020, in celebration of National Pumpkin Day. 

Cash prizes will be awarded to participants as follows:

1st Place: $100.00
2nd Place: $50.00
3rd Place: $25.00

 Prize money is graciously sponsored by the Georgia Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association.  We ask that 4-H’ers please send them a thank you card showing their appreciation for their support of this contest.  Contacting the Georgia Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association regarding prize money will result in disqualification.
