Legislative Update: Bretton Woods Committee Action on IDA18 Funding; Upcoming International Council Meeting – Oct. 12; Regional Spotlight: Fighting Famine in Africa and Yemen; Views from the Members on Regulatory Reform; and More!
In August and September, the Committee's Legislative Task Force took to Capitol Hill to advocate on behalf of IDA18. 

Recent Highlights

Legislative Update: Bretton Woods Commitee Action on World Bank IDA18 Funding

The Appropriations Committees of the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate have now both passed budget bills ($658 million and $1.097 billion respectively) for FY18 funding of IDA, and will move to negotiating final funding levels in joint conference. Thank you to all Bretton Woods Committee members and friends who have supported the Committee’s IDA18 advocacy efforts through our social media campaign #IsupportIDA, by calling your members of Congress, and by graciously giving your time for meetings on the Hill. Regional Spotlight: Fighting Famine in Africa and Yemen

On September 13, 2017, the Bretton Woods Committee hosted a virtual conference titled, Regional Spotlight: Fighting Famine in Africa and Yemen. Featured speakers included Valerie Guarnieri from the World Food Programme, as well as World Bank experts Mamta Murthi, Director of Operations and Strategy for the Africa Region, and Poonam Gupta, Country Program Coordinator for Egypt, Yemen, and Djibouti. Committee member, Gayle Tzemach Lemmon, Senior Fellow for Women and Foreign Policy at the Council on Foreign Relations, moderated the conversation. Read more.

Rameswurlall Basant Roi, Central Bank Governor of Mauritius, received the Central Bank Governor of the Year Award for Africa.
Ngozi Okonjo-iweala, Chair of the GAVI Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunizations, received the 2017 Aspen Institute Madeleine Albright Award, recognizing her for her vision and breakthrough thinking to tackle the challenges of Global Development.
Randal Quarles, Managing Partner at the Cynosure Group, has been nominated to serve as the vice chair for supervision at the Federal Reserve.
