Very soon, Scottish politicians could make a decision that would be a hammer blow for trans people.
Anti-trans lobbyists are trying to change the census to force trans people to tick ‘male’ or ‘female’ based on the sex it says on their birth certificate.
That’s just a cruel way of saying to trans people -- your identity isn’t real. Up til now, everyone has been free to answer the ‘sex’ question in their own way.
Right now, Scottish politicians are hearing lots of noise from a handful of very loud anti-trans lobbyists. But if thousands of us sign the petition, we can show politicians that we want trans people and the census protected. Can you tip the balance?

The push to make trans people answer a compulsory ‘sex’ question based on whether they were called “male” or “female” at birth isn’t just cruel -- it’s also dangerous.
Anti-trans lobbyists have made clear the census is their first step towards restricting trans people’s ability to change their sex on any of their ID and records. To roll back over 30 years of trans people’s rights to privacy and dignity.
The idea is to enshrine in law that it doesn’t matter what we know and feel about ourselves -- what really matters is what a piece of paper says or a doctor decides.
It’s an attack on freedom for everyone, not just trans people.
