Hey there developer. 👋 Happy March! I know, we can't believe it's already March again either. 

As spring dawns, there are new open source events to attend, issues to solve, and fresh PRs to merge. In this issue, we are going to discuss the newly released rust-gpu v0.3, the upcoming foss-north 2021, highlight our contributors of the month, and more.

rust-gpu v0.3 is here!

We're excited to announce the third release of rust-gpu, our project dedicated to making Rust a first class language and ecosystem for GPU programming. You can read more about why we at Embark started this project in the original announcement.

Since launching in October 2020, we've achieved some pretty significant milestones - recent optimization improvements allowed us to finally retire GLSL in our internal engine, with 100% of our shaders now implemented in Rust 🦀.

Rust Linz, February 2021 - Celia Lewis - Getting started with Open Source

Brand new to open source or wanting to get familiar with Embark's repos? 
I had the pleasure of speaking at the Rust Linz meetup this February about getting involved in open source development and specifically about Embark's Rust ecosystem.

If you're interested in learning how to solve a Pizzaria's "tire pizza" issue using Github and VSCode, you can check out the video now on Rust's Youtube channel.

Projects We ❤️: Veloren

At Embark, we believe in supporting the passionate, creative, and growing family of the entire Rust ecosystem. We love sponsoring the people and projects that elevate the potential of Rust—making it more accessible, useful, and fun.

This month, we want to highlight the project Veloren, a multiplayer voxel RPG written in Rust. Inspired by games such as Cube World, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Dwarf Fortress and Minecraft, this open source RPG has over 200 open issues on GitLab.

Community is all about people, and we’re grateful to have you along with our journey. That's why we want to take the time to highlight the contributions, small and large, that developers like you add to our projects. 

Thanks to you all, Rustgpu is growing and evolving even faster than we could have anticipated. This month, we're featuring the recent contributions of 2 developers to rust-gpu who had their pull requests merged.

foss-north 2021

foss-north is a free / open source conference covering both software and hardware from the technical perspective. It is held May 31 - June 1, paired with the community day on May 30.

Want to speak at foss-north? With openings for 25 or 50 minute talks, the Call for Papers is open until April 11. If you're part of a project or a larger organization seeking to demonstrate a workshop, a development sprint, an install-fest, or otherwise, the Call for Projects is open until May 15.
