News and Updates on National Adaptation Plan (NAP) processes.

NAP GLOBAL NETWORK AT COP 25
From December 2 to 13, the NAP Global Network participated in more than 15 events at the 2019 United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP 25) in Madrid, Spain. Our experts were there taking part in discussions, sharing research and convening events at the conference, with a focus on gender, private sector engagement, alignment of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and NAPs, and vertical integration in NAP processes.

On Gender Day, the NAP Global Network hosted a lively debate around whether increasing women’s participation in decision-making was key to unlocking gender-responsive adaptation, while also launching a new toolkit for gender-responsive NAP processes in collaboration with the UNFCCC’s Least Developed Countries Expert Group and Adaptation Committee. Other highlights include events on leveraging NAP processes to help meet Paris Agreement targets, enhancing private sector engagement in adaptation planning and implementation and sharing national visions on adaptation action among three African countries.

FORMULATING AND IMPLEMENTING NAPS: TOOLKIT FOR A GENDER-RESPONSIVE PROCESS
The impacts of climate change are not gender-neutral. Consequently, responses to these impacts, whether at the policy level or on the ground in vulnerable communities, must be gender-responsive. This toolkit, developed by the NAP Global Network in collaboration with the UNFCCC’s Least Developed Countries Expert Group and Adaptation Committee, is designed to support country efforts to pursue a gender-responsive NAP process—read it here
