Does your album need gaps of silence between tracks?

The sequencing of an album is a personal decision based on the vibe and the momentum in which you want to achieve. If you created a prog-rock opus then you may want your songs to be free-flowing, as if they’re movements in one large-scale story. Rap albums generally tend to be segmented, wherein each song is its own distinct beat and mood. So to answer the question we posed— it’s really up to you! If you do want gaps between tracks, Duplication.ca can easily provide. Here’s the lowdown.

Adding gaps for CD Pressing

If you are supplying a DDP then the gaps of silence need to already be in place. Otherwise to add gaps we will need to create a brand new DDP master, which is at an extra cost. Click here to learn about creating a DDP.

If you’re supplying individual tracks, then by default we will not be adding gaps of silence and will instead provide a seamless mix. However, you can request gaps of silence on the order page. Choose how many seconds between tracks on the dropdown menu. If each track is different, then you can request variable spacing. Just make sure to give a list in the ‘Notes’ section of your order detailing the gaps you need, that way we don’t have to delay production by emailing you for clarification.

There’s no need to add a gap before Track 1 of your album. CD pressing automatically includes a 2-second “pre-roll”. This works as a delay for when your CD will begin, ensuring that CD players won’t cut off any audio when loading the disc. This is a requisite for CD pressing and an industry standard.

Adding gaps for cassette duplication

By default we will create a seamless sequence of your audio tracks unless requested otherwise. That means you’ll need to request gaps in the ‘Notes’ section of your order, specifying the length of the gaps. If you do wish to have gaps in your tracks, you must send us individual track files as opposed to side-length files. Please be sure that the file is clearly labeled with it’s side/track number (ex. A01, A02, B01, etc.) and that all the files are uniform in their sample rate and bit rate.
