New Danish district heating cooperation
will help China achieve its climate goals

Kristoffer Böttzauw, Director General, Danish Energy Agency and Susanne Pedersen, Director, UNEP DTU Partnership signing the MoU

Today, around a third of the world's energy is used on heating and cooling. Especially in China, the potential for green heating is huge. Based on this, UNEP DTU Partnership and the Danish Energy Agency are entering into a new cooperation agreement on district heating in China. By sharing Danish know-how with regulatory framework conditions, the cooperation aims to contribute to speeding up the green transition, helping China fulfil the Paris Agreement commitments.

Towards the achievement of SDG 7 and net-zero emissions

The global effort to mobilize actions and commitments to achieve clean, affordable energy for all by 2030 and net zero emissions by 2050 is accelerating. Good news to all participants in the High-level Dialogue on Energy, which took place in June and the rest of the World.  During the High-level meeting new commitments and plans was announced, showing that there is a great momentum behind ensuring,  ensure that everyone has access to clean, renewable energy and to reach net-zero emissions, by 2030.

Caribbean twin islands kickstart TNA

St. Kitts and Nevis take the first steps towards identifying climate technology for adaptation and mitigation, and towards crucial climate action.

Recently, St. Kitts and Nevis became one of the first countries to officially launch their Technology Needs Assessment (TNA) under the TNA IV project, to prioritise and plan for future climate technology implementation.

The meeting was attended by representatives from a wide range of ministries and departments, as well as utilities, non-governmental organisations and individual experts, and was hosted by the Department of Environment of the twin island Caribbean nation in collaboration with UNEP, UNEP DTU Partnership and its regional collaborating centre, the University of the West Indies.

Through a series of upcoming consultations with these and many other stakeholders, the project will identify and prioritise at least four technologies in the water and agriculture sectors for climate change adaptation and the energy and transport sectors for mitigation.

First tenders on solar and EVs for bundling trust fund

Based on an innovative finance model, Argentinian municipalities are broadening their scope for climate and energy efficiency investments. A now award-winning finance model for energy efficiency.

The Trust fund for the Argentine Network of Municipalities against Climate Change (RAMCC) announced that for the first time it will hold a collective tender for solar panels and electric vehicles.
This is one of the many results now emerging from a new approach with bundling of investments in energy efficiency at local level throughout the country. Earlier this year, municipalities were successful in procuring LED street lighting at favourable costs through the trust fund in two separate bundled investments.

NEW KNOWLEDGE TOOLS
New tool matches water practitioners with technology
providers to help solve the world’s water challenges

Too much water, too little water, sea level rise, pollution, and increased climate change risks. Many of us know all about the world’s water management challenges, but few of us are aware of the growing number of technical solutions to help address these challenges. One of the reasons for this is that there is no single online space that gathers and organizes this kind of information in a clear and useful way….Until now.Since the global climate change agenda first dawned, energy efficiency has held out the promise of the most cost-efficient options to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It practice, it has delivered poorly on that promise, as recorded evidence from practically all frameworks emerging from the climate change negotiations have shown. Why is that – and can The Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) under the Paris Agreement finally change the outlooks?

Public lighting toolbox for municipal
energy efficiency implementation

Street lighting can represent up to 40% of the electricity bills at a municipal level, 15% of global power consumption and 5% of the greenhouse emissions, but how to do calculations?

In line with the global street lighting market growth and country requirements, the Copenhagen Center on Energy Efficiency together with United Nations Environmental Programme initiative United for Efficiency, have jointly developed a Street Lighting toolbox to assess the energy, financial and climate saving potential that can be reached from the shift out of existing older street lighting technologies to intelligent, energy-efficient LED systems.
