Green Climate fund increases funding to developing countries based on Technology Needs Assessments

More and more countries are receiving funding from the Green Climate Fund based on their national Technology Needs Assessments (TNAs). Building on their TNA outputs, Armenia and Mongolia among many others have obtained significant support from GCF.

Emissions Gap Report chapter on global climate action from non-state actors released

Ahead of the Global Climate Action Summit, a chapter from the upcoming UN Environment Emissions Gap Report, coordinated by UNEP DTU Partnership, on the crucial role of non-state actors in reducing emissions and reaching climate targets was released.

Ranging from city, state and regional governments to companies, investors, higher education institutions and civil society organizations, non-state actors are increasingly committing to bold climate action. The chapter finds a broad spectrum of commitments with potential to support and ultimately outpace governments in their emission reductions.

Building on lessons learned to help African NGOs establish social energy enterprises

Building on the success of the African Rural Energy Enterprise Development (AREED) project, UNEP DTU Partnership is now part of distributing reflow funds to social enterprises working with clean and renewable energy throughout the continent.

One of the examples is in Tanzania, where the Tanzania Traditional Energy Development Organisation (TaTEDO) has developed a business plan to supply locally produced improved cookstoves with funds administered by UNEP DTU Partnership. These improved cookstoves will help reduce the wasteful consumption of wood fuels for cooking and heating, bring down high costs for users and reduce harm to both health and the environment.

Call for Latin America & the Caribbean to engage in
Climate Dialogue

The Latin American & Caribbean Climate Week has showcased ground-breaking action underway in the region to dramatically reduce greenhouse gas emissions and build resilience to the unavoidable impacts of climate change.

UPCOMING WEBINAR

On 16 October, UNEP DTU Partnership will host a webinar showcasing the use of blockchain technologies in development and cooperation projects with a focus on sustainable energy (SDG#7). We will present a project on crowd investing for producing solar energy on unused rooftops of public buildings in Moldova, a pilot project on decentralization of energy market in Bangladesh , and will look into trading energy projects in Thailand.
