In 2016, we started Brand New Congress. In 2017, Justice Democrats. In 2018, we helped elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to Congress and launched the Green New Deal. Now we are launching a new campaign to replace conservative Democrats in the Senate who stand in the way of progress. It’s called No Excuses, and we need your help immediately to run ads telling Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema that they will be primaried and replaced in 2024 if they join with Republicans to shrink their own party’s pandemic, climate, and economic plans.

Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona and Joe Manchin of West Virginia have both pledged to help Republicans to negotiate their own party down from real solutions to half measures in the name of “bipartisanship.” Bipartisanship is a great idea--one Republicans have refused to honor for decades. They are like Lucy with the football, and Democrats have predictably played Charlie Brown every time--until now. Finally, we have a Democratic president and Congressional leadership who are not falling for it. Now the only thing stopping them from taking the fall again, in a 50/50 Senate, are Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema.

Are Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema really the best that West Virginia and Arizona have to offer? No way! With your help, we can do better.

Over the past few weeks we have been running ads in both WV and AZ to make sure that the voters know what their Senators are up to. With your donation, we’ll be able to keep those ads running.

But we need to raise the stakes by recruiting replacements. We’ve learned a lot about how to do this kind of thing over the past few years. We’ve seen how national money and media attention can make it possible to replace even the most powerful Democrats in Congress when they let American down.

The first step is finding the right candidates. Did you know that AOC was nominated on a form just like this by her brother? Do you know the next senator from West Virginia or Arizona? If you don’t know a leader in either of those states, you can help us recruit by donating to fund newspaper and radio ads asking for candidate nominations. Believe it or not, some of Justice Democrats’ best candidates were recruited by running ads.

Who are we looking for? We are looking for people that have already made a difference in the lives of others. Maybe they go above and beyond the call of duty as a nurse, public health worker, a teacher, or a principal. Maybe they saw injustice in their workplace or community and worked to reverse it. Maybe they built a business that provides good jobs in their state.

What we’re not looking for, with few exceptions: Career politicians. With very few exceptions, we find that politicians that have been in the system for a while get their priorities out of order. That said, if you believe you know a local politician in one of these states who is different, let us know.
