Hey there,

Corporate media is hugely problematic in this country. Their 'journalists' report solely (and soullessly) for clicks and desperately claw at any chance they have left of getting people like you to watch their nonsense on TV.

When you have a world that is (literally) burning down due to climate change and Americans that are actively being poisoned via the taps in their homes, it boggles the mind that any purported 'news' organization could report on anything else, much less on giant Trump baby balloons in a cheap attempt to rile up #TheResistance.

That's why Status Coup is different. We exist to give the microphone back to the people. We go in the field. We investigate. We get our hands dirty and ruffle all the feathers necessary to deliver real stories that matter.

Last Spring, Jordan and I had some meetings with some of those who pull the strings behind the curtain of corporate media. We went because we were interested in seeing what they would say to our idea—not to work with them, but to explain what was missing in media and how we would fill the void.

We were basically laughed out of the room.

This didn't bother us at all, and in fact, added fuel to our fire. Because Jordan's been in the trenches, and now I have, and it's their loss that they don't 'get it' and don't care to get it.

When you stand on porches cradling babies who've been poisoned, sit in the living rooms of mothers who can't hold back their tears because they can't get healthcare for their cancer treatments, and stand on the decks of those whose family land is currently being stolen and bulldozed by the government to ram a pipeline through, CNN reporting on a Trump baby balloon is laughable—and not because it's funny.

The truth is that we will report on the stories that matter—we will give the microphone back to the people—no matter what. No matter how many obstacles they throw in our way.

But we need your help. It costs money to go on these in-field trips others won't go on, to visit the porches of mothers and the decks of pipeline protesters.

And every little bit helps. There's a reason we're crowdfunding this reporting—we only want to be accountable to you, the people, and not shady corporations that pull the puppet strings of other media companies.

Do you have $5 (or any amount that fits your budget) you can donate to our GoFundMe so we can stay in the field reporting? Every amount helps and it all adds up.

We have ambitious fundraising goals to go alongside our ambitious media company. It would mean the world to us, and to the stories and people we cover, if you can donate today.

In the first installment of Status Coup's "This Is Your Brain on CORPORATE Media," we show the media spending time on hot-air Trump balloons while ignoring corruption and injustice in Flint.
