PAST SEASONS  |  ENGAGE  |  EDUCATION  |  ABOUT |  WORK WITH C1  |  SUPPORT C1
Two decades ago, we founded C1 in an effort to disrupt the status quo. For this, our 20th season, we chose playwrights who are all major disruptors, working to change the American theatre in vital ways. Their plays are full of music and movement, of complicated journeys across boundaries national and personal. These are American stories, and they each reckon with who has access to the privilege of an “American” identity.

This season, as we celebrate our own history and recenter our mission to build community at the intersection of art and social change, we hope the stories on our stages will move your hearts, move you to action, and—together—help move us forward.

VIETGONE
by Qui Nguyen (She Kills Monsters)
directed by Michelle Aguillon
in partnership with Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center

April 27 – May 25 @ Boston Center for the Arts Plaza Theatre
#RomComWithC1

Qui’s parents always told him they fell in love at first sight—but really, it was just a hook up. After the fall of Saigon. In a refugee camp. In Arkansas.

A kinda-true love story with a hip-hop heart, Vietgone is a hilarious ride from Marvel Studios writer Qui Nguyen, who mixes music and memory to pin down his own origin story.

“Exuberantly youthful... a punch-drunk mash-up of hip-hop, road movies, sex farce and Vietnamese-American history. Oh, also kick-ass fights..” — Time Out New York

GREATER GOOD
by Kirsten Greenidge (Splendor, Milk Like Sugar)
directed by Shawn LaCount
in collaboration with American Repertory Theater as part of the A.R.T. Breakout series
with support from the Mellon Foundation’s National Playwright Residency Program
administered in partnership with HowlRound

Summer 2019
Site-Specific Venue Will Be Announced Closer to the Production

#GetSchooledWithC1

A choose-your-own-adventure, site-specific theatrical experience, Greater Good moves us through the halls of Gleason Street, a progressive school that’s struggling to live up to its mission.

The latest Boston-based story from C1’s OBIE Award-winning resident playwright Kirsten Greenidge, this immersive new play interrogates our city’s history as a hub of education and asks what we’re willing to compromise for the greater good.

“Greenidge seems to have an uncanny sense of the world around her.”

>> RESPONSIVE PROGRAMMING
OUR AMERICAN STORY:
BOSTON (UN)DOCUMENTED

a crossover program between Engagement & PlayLab
with support from Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center and Boston Public Library

This season, playwright David Valdes Greenwood and C1 will work with Boston residents in the sharing of their undocumented (and DACAmented) experiences. Through one-on-one interviews, community forums, and small gatherings, we’ll take in the diverse perspectives that tell the story of this moment in our city. Including populations whose immigration experiences vary by culture, origin, and path to legal status, we’ll listen as community narratives define themselves.

Do you have a story to tell or perspective to share? Email literary@companyone.org.

We’ve reimagined our Membership program for Season 20.
It’s not a subscription. It’s how we build community.

Starting at just $25, C1 Members enjoy a year of exclusive benefits including access to discounted tickets, waived ticket fees, free ticket exchanges, and early access to tickets before they go on sale to the general public.

Most importantly, your contribution is a gift to support C1’s community at the intersection of art and social change.
