Urge Congress to Give Relief to College Students!
Congress recently passed a stimulus package that will give $1,200 to most American adults and $500 for every qualifying child age 16 or under. But this bill forgets one critical group: College students who are claimed as dependents. We call on Congress to pass legislation that will grant critical relief to college students. Sign the petition, and urge Congress to adopt additional funding to alleviate the financial burden created by the COVID-19 pandemic.
While the College Democrats of America applauds the CARES Act for its loan forgiveness provisions and enhanced funding for universities, the legislation simply does not go far enough to protect the financial security of students. Directly aiding college students claimed as dependents through a tax rebate is essential, and must be adopted in additional legislation.
The College Democrats of America urges Congress to pass another relief package that addresses the needs of college students. Please call your representatives and advocate for college students during this uncertain time.
