The news cycle of this week is generally centered around Donald Trump’s recent visit to Asia, in which China and its New Silk Road initiative were part of the agenda and the conversations at different moments. New York Time’s article [China Doesn’t Feel ‘Targeted’ by Trump’s Indo-Pacific Concept] addresses the increasing use of the concept “indo-pacific” as a ‘shorthand for a broader and democratic-led region in place of the "Asia-Pacific", which to some places an authoritarian China too firmly at the centre. China says that it doesn’t feel uniquely targeted by this concept and needs to understand it better.

In the same trip, there was the APEC meeting in which Trump, Putin, and Xi Jinping met each other. Russia-Briefing’s article [Russia to Push Greater Eurasian Partnership Concept At APEC] addresses the issue of increasing partnership between China and Russia as ‘a new game-changer’ in Eurasia.

ENR’s article [Supporting Japanese Infrastructure Plan, US Counters China's Belt and Road Initiative] addresses the issue of Japanese-American cooperation: ‘The U.S. on Nov. 7 signed an agreement with Japan to support the nation's "Partnership for Quality Infrastructure," a program many regard as a rival to China's Belt and Road Initiative.'
