What a horrible week!
Dear Reader,
I’m not going to lie, it’s been a horrible week. Awful stories of violence and tragedy, a deadly virus on the loose around the globe and, if that wasn’t bad enough, Andrew Bolt is still employed.
On top of that, Coles was caught underpaying its workers. It only came to light after a security guard noticed the HR department was scanning employee wages as “onions” on the self-service checkout.
Holden shut down causing massive job losses, particularly amongst mechanics who specialise in under-warranty repair.
And Peter Dutton demanded military grade resources to protect us from child sex offenders (except for the ones endorsed by Andrew Bolt, of course).
And just this morning, Tourism Australia announced that the Great Barrier Reef will be rebranded the “New White Meat” thanks to climate induced bleaching.
But amongst all of the doom and gloom, there were some real causes for optimism. We’re struggling to think what they are, but we are sure they exist.
In fact, if you’ve got a tip for a story that isn’t about horrific male violence, awful accidental tragedy, minimising child sex abuse, corporate malfeasance, creeping authoritarianism, economic gloom, climate-induced ruin, locust plagues or deadly virus pandemics, then please let me know at editor@chaser.com.au
Have a happy weekend!
