Vietnam launches second phase of One Health partnership for zoonoses control
To strengthen ongoing work in the control of zoonotic diseases, or diseases transmitted from animals to humans, in Vietnam, the second phase of the framework for One Health Partnership for Zoonoses (OHP), was officially launched in Hanoi on 23 March 2021. This initiative by the Vietnamese government will run from 2021 to 2025. Read more

Vietnam holds the first national dialogue in the lead-up to the UN Food Systems Summit 2021
Around 130 leaders, researchers, investors, government, and private sector representatives in Vietnam gathered in Hanoi and joined virtually to identify solutions to some of the most pressing issues facing the food systems of the country. The feedback from the national partners will be reported to the first-ever UN Food Systems Summit in September to strategize the actions for positive change in agri-food systems to realize the Sustainable Development Goals. New chicken genetic gains project to transform smallholder chicken farming in Southeast Asia
Funded by the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), the ILRI-led Asian chicken genetics gains, or AsCGG project was introduced to livestock sector stakeholders in the three countries in a virtual two-day workshop on 24–25 May 2021. The event also sought stakeholder feedback on the project’s roll-out and implementation. Read more
‘Safe Food, Fair Food for Cambodia’—Future directions for scaling up the project’s interventions
For two days last month (21–22 Jun 2021), food safety experts from across Cambodia and a research project team led by ILRI gathered to discuss ways to disseminate findings and scale up interventions of a ‘Safe Food, Fair Food (SFFF) for Cambodia’ project that was ending after four years of operation. Video: Five keys to safer pork in Cambodia’s traditional markets
The SFFF for Cambodia project recently launched a short video highlighting ‘Five keys for retailing safer pork in Cambodia’s traditional markets.’ This video, which is produced in Khmer and subtitled in English, aims to support national food safety authorities and food chain stakeholders in promoting good practices among pork retailers in Cambodia’s traditional markets. During the virtual Annual Agriculture, Nutrition and Health (ANH) Academy Week that was held from 21 June to 2 July, ILRI-led Market-based approach to improving the safety of pork in Vietnam project’s student Ngo Hoang Tuan Hai attended and gave a poster presentation to share the understanding about perception and drivers to improve food safety condition of pork value chain actors in northern Vietnam. Improving food safety risk management for a healthy Vietnam
More than 350 actors in Vietnam’s smallholder pig value chain have been trained in managing risks in the value chain and risk communication by ILRI-led ‘Market-based approach to improving the safety of pork in Vietnam’ or SafePORK project in the past 18 months. This work is part of the project’s goal of addressing knowledge gaps and misperceptions on food safety risks to improve the safety of pork sold and consumed in the country. Read more
ILRI fellowship offers emerging researchers hands-on learning in using the One Health approach
A fellowship program by the Southeast Asia One Health University Network (SEAOHUN) and ILRI is giving young Southeast Asian researchers hands-on experience in using the One Health approach to tackle zoonotic diseases in developing-country contexts. Read more
