Financing health and nutrition for women and children
The Global Financing Facility works to close the financing gap to end preventable deaths of mothers and children by 2030. Its 2017–2018 Annual Report shares results and learning from three country case studies and data on core indicators for 16 countries.
Trade is essential to ending hunger and malnutrition
IFPRI researchers conclude that open, transparent, and equitable trade is essential to ending hunger and malnutrition sustainably. The paper is part of a compilation published by the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development examining the linkages between Sustainable Development Goal 2 and policies affecting trade and markets.
 
Biofortified pearl millet improves cognitive outcomes
A recent study in the Journal of Nutrition provides evidence that biofortified high-iron pearl millet can stem the negative effects of iron deficiency by significantly improving nutrition and cognitive performance. This is the second landmark study to demonstrate that iron biofortification results in functional cognitive improvements that could profoundly impact women and teen's daily lives, including their ability to succeed at school and work.
 
Pathways from small-scale irrigation to diet diversity
A study of small-scale irrigation in Ethiopia and Tanzania in Food Security concludes that the potential for irrigation to influence diets is highly context-specific. Nutrition-sensitive agriculture approaches will therefore require a better understanding of the pathways to improve nutrition outcomes.
 
Exploring the economics of teff
Teff is a calorie- and nutrient-rich but low-yielding staple crop in Ethiopia. A new book from IFPRI examines opportunities and challenges for improving its production, marketing, and consumption.
Nutrition Exchange releases 10th edition
The 10th issue of the Emergency Nutrition Network’s Nutrition Exchange features articles by frontline practitioners working at the country level as well as regional perspectives on how to improve nutrition.
 
Enhancing partnerships and reducing post-harvest losses to end hunger in Africa
The African Union Commission, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and Rockefeller Foundation recently held a high-level meeting with key stakeholders on improving food security in Africa through enhanced partnerships and post-harvest management. The aim is to develop policies and strategies for country-specific plans to reduce post-harvest losses, contributing to the goal to end hunger in Africa by 2025.
 
Challenges in promoting exclusive breastfeeding
To mark the end of World Breastfeeding Week, Malnutrition Deeply will host a talk on August 7 to look at the challenges on both an international and national level to encouraging exclusive breastfeeding.
