Perspectives from Compact2025 Leadership
Members of the Compact2025 Leadership Council (LC) and Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) played key roles on the conference program, sharing their experiences and expertise on how to accelerate the end of hunger and malnutrition.
  • Min Gao, two-time Olympic gold medal winner, Chairwoman of the StarPower Charity Foundation, and Compact2025 Ambassador, gave an inspiring speech on what mindset and attributes are needed to end hunger and malnutrition.
  • Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, Founder and Chairperson of BRAC and LC member, shared insights from the Bangladesh experience growing more food and reducing infant mortality in a panel on “Accelerating the End of Hunger and Malnutrition: Country Experiences.”
  • M.S. Swaminathan, Founder, Chairman and Chief Mentor of the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation and LC member, reflected on his lifelong mission of innovating in agriculture.
  • Gerda Verburg, UN Assistant Secretary General and Coordinator of the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement and LC member, reminded participants to focus on the country level in a panel on “Accelerating the End of Hunger and Malnutrition: Facing Challenges, Defining Needs.” And don’t miss her interview with youth correspondent Jade Delgado!
  • Nabeeha Kazi, Executive Director of No Wasted Lives and TAC member, chaired the session on “Leaving No One Behind: Inclusive Acceleration.”
  • David Pelletier, Professor of Nutrition Policy at Cornell University, President of the Society for Implementation Science in Nutrition, and TAC member, emphasized the importance of how data is actually collected in the field in a panel on “SDG2: Tracking Progress with New Tools and Data.”
  • Prabhu Pingali, Professor and Director of the Tata-Cornell Institute for Agriculture and Nutrition (TCI) and TAC member, gave a keynote presentation on “What is an Accelerator?” pointing to the interventions, policy changes, and institutional reforms that can lead to transformation at scale in reducing hunger and malnutrition.
  • Vijay Sardana, Vice President & Head of Food Security and Agribusiness with UPL Limited and TAC member, called for more transparency around conflicts of interest in nutrition discussions as part of a panel discussion on “Good Governance Accelerates Progress: From Local to Global.”
  • Yuexin Yang, President of the Chinese Nutrition Society and TAC member, spoke on a panel on “Leveraging the Food System to Tackle Overweight and Obesity.”

Launch of the 2018 Global Nutrition Report: The good and bad news
The bad news is that the global burden of malnutrition is unacceptably high and now affects every country in the world as revealed by the 2018 Global Nutrition Report, launched at the IFPRI-FAO conference. The good news is, if we act now, it is not too late to end malnutrition in all its forms by 2030.

Over 30 side events brought together actors across the public and private sectors, academia, and civil society to delve deeper into key themes of the conference, several of which were organized by C2025 leaders or showcased experiences from C2025 focal countries.

A rich collection of over 75 electronic posters submitted by colleagues from organizations around the world highlights innovative initiatives, concepts, and tools including experiences from C2025 focal countries.
 
Acceleration resources highlight evidence and learning from C2025 focal countries
More than 150 resources on accelerating progress towards ending hunger and malnutrition feature key evidence, lessons learned, tools, and more from a range of organizations and countries including C2025 focal countries.
