Agriculture, nutrition, and gender linkages in Bangladesh
An outcome brochure from the Agriculture, Nutrition, and Gender Linkages (ANGeL) Project in Bangladesh summarizes key results from the 3-year initiative. The Ministry of Agriculture will use these results to scale up the most effective interventions countrywide to increase agricultural diversity and farm household income, improve nutrition, and promote women’s empowerment.
 
Asia and the Pacific risk missing SDG 2
FAO’s Asia and the Pacific Regional Overview of Food Security and Nutrition reveals that the region is at serious risk of missing 2030 targets to end all forms of malnutrition—from hunger to obesity. Reduction in the number of hungry and malnourished people—including children—has come to a virtual standstill.
 
Boosting Growth to End Hunger by 2025: The Role of Social Protection
The 2017-2018 ReSAKSS Annual Trends and Outlook Report examines social protection in rural Africa. Key findings include that food transfers may have a protective effect on food security and nutrition for vulnerable populations in settings with chronic food insecurity and conflict, and that cash transfers may have the most potential to reduce poverty but cash+ (cash plus) programs have the largest and most consistent body of evidence supporting their impact on extreme poverty.
 
Avoiding the burden of unsafe food
The World Bank report on food safety stresses its importance for low- and middle-income countries and provides guidance to accelerate progress.
 
Environmental, nutrition, and health impacts of sustainable diets
A study in The Lancet Planetary Health including more than 150 countries reveals that a public health strategy focused on improving energy balance and dietary changes towards predominantly plant-based diets is a suitable approach for sustainable diets.
 
Drivers of change in anemia among children and pregnant women in India
Reductions in anemia improved significantly between 2006 and 2016 in children and pregnant women in India, according to a study in BMJ Global Health. Major contributors to these trends were maternal schooling, coverage of nutrition and health interventions, socioeconomic status, sanitation, and meat and fish consumption.
  
Do different dietary and nutrition assessment tools match?
Using data from rural Kenya, a study in Public Health Nutrition shows that household-level dietary indicators are significantly correlated with individual-level indicators for male and female children and adults and can be used as proxies of individual-level dietary quality. 
U.S. Spotlight Index: Making healthier choices
The U.S. Access to Nutrition Spotlight Index 2018 analyzes leading food and beverage companies’ efforts to help consumers in the U.S. make healthier choices about what they eat and drink. It will be launched on November 16 in Washington, D.C.
 
Parliamentarians gather to accelerate progress on SDG 2
The Global Parliamentary Summit against Hunger and Malnutrition brought together key legislative players on October 29–30 in Madrid to advance political will to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 2.

In the 28th Annual Martin J. Forman Memorial Lecture, keynote speaker Barry M. Popkin focused on “Confronting the New Face of Malnutrition: Regulatory and Fiscal Approaches to Improving Diets.” Video from the event and the accompanying presentation are now available.
