The World Bank and the government of Bangladesh signed a new $515 million financing agreement. This Health Sector Support Project will work to improve the country’s health, nutrition, and population services.
The new report from the Malabo Montpellier Panel, “Nourished: How Africa Can Build a Future Free from Hunger and Malnutrition,” reviews progress in reducing malnutrition levels in Africa and draws lessons from successful experiences in seven countries. The co-chairs of the Panel distill five key lessons for policymakers from the report in a recent Devex article.
 
The World Food Program’s review of nutrition-sensitive approaches in school meal programs across 16 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean identifies opportunities for improvement including increased investment in the micronutrient content of school meals, integration with national social protection systems, and strengthened multisectoral approaches.
 
Ethiopia Strategy Support Program working paper shows that payments through the Productive Safety Net Program in Ethiopia helped reduce the initial impact of drought shocks by 57 percent and eliminated the adverse impacts of drought on food security within two years.
Five UN agencies will launch “The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2017” on September 15. This is the first-ever consolidated UN report on progress towards eradicating hunger and malnutrition by 2030.
 
USAID’s Global Innovation Week will showcase leading innovations in government, global health, and international development. The week has an “Evidence and Innovation Day” on September 28 and a “Scale to Impact Day” on September 29.
 
USAID Administrator Mark Green announced the next phase of Feed the Future target countries on August 30. America's global hunger and food security initiative will focus on promoting long-term, sustainable development to address the root causes of hunger and poverty in Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guatemala, Honduras, Kenya, Mali, Nepal, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, and Uganda.
 
Dr. Ibrahim Mayaki, CEO of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) and Compact2025 Leadership Council member, received the African Development Award from the Indian Council of Food and Agriculture for his commitment to advancing policy for agricultural growth and food and nutrition security.
