POLICIES AND PROGRAMS  

Nigeria’s federal government launched its “Agricultural Sector Food and Nutrition Strategy 2016-2025."
RESEARCH AND INNOVATION

Compact2025 literature review on the benefits of ending hunger and malnutrition summarizes four major areas of benefits – economic, health, social, and education – and discusses gaps in the current research.

World Bank working paper summarizes current evidence and trends in undernutrition in Pakistan, a country with an extraordinarily high and persistent level of child undernutrition, and provides suggestions for further research and policy action.

Global Panel policy brief calls for transformation of food environments to be more supportive of high-quality diets, providing evidence of what works and recommendations for action that affect supply dynamics of the food system aimed at both public and private sector actors.

Study finds that adding a WASH component and nutrient supplement to an integrated agriculture and nutrition program in Burkina Faso led to greater reductions in anemia and vitamin A deficiency.

The EU has set out its political priorities and concrete proposals for a stronger strategic partnership with Africa, including an EU-Africa Research and Innovation Partnership to generate investments in research and innovation in agriculture and increase the uptake of new technologies by local communities for increased agricultural income and nutrition.

NEWS AND EVENTS

To guide more informed policy, the Ag-Incentives Consortium launched a new online database that aggregates agricultural policy data from IFPRI, OECD, FAO, IDB, and the World Bank.

The CGIAR launched its Platform for Big Data in Agriculture, led by CIAT and IFPRI, on May 15.

The first partners meeting of the Initiative for Food and Nutrition Security in Africa, coordinated by JICA and NEPAD, took place May 18 – 19 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Transform Nutrition will host a regional meeting on “Evidence for action in East Africa” on June 8 in Nairobi, Kenya, sharing evidence and lessons on key issues related to nutrition policy in East Africa.
