Canada’s first-ever national food policy

Policy innovation for transforming Africa’s food system with digital technologies
The Malabo Montpellier Panel report Byte by byte: policy innovation for transforming Africa’s food system with digital technologies examines what seven African countries at the forefront of progress on digitalization of the agriculture sector have done right, from apps such as FarmCrowdy and FarmDrive using Big Data to help farmers access loans to Rwanda’s construction of Kigali Innovation City, a $2 billion digital transformation hub that will connect universities, technology companies, and young entrepreneurs across Africa.

Adolescent pregnancy and child undernutrition in India
A study in The Lancet Child & Adolescent Health examines data from India's fourth National Family Health Survey, 2015–16. It finds that adolescent pregnancy is related to child undernutrition through poor maternal nutritional status, lower education, less health service access, poor complementary feeding practices, and poor living conditions. Policies and programs to delay pregnancy and promote women's rights could help break the intergenerational cycle of undernutrition.

Nutrition policy in Zambia: from international realms to national policy
A study in Health Policy and Planning examines how nutrition policy ideas of multisectoral approaches to reduce stunting have been transferred from international realms to Zambian national policy processes. These ideas often clashed with policies promoted by the established coalition focused on food security and hunger, and the article calls for both groups to find common ground through more inclusive forms of policy practice, such as a focus on quality diets.

Understanding the human right to adequate nutrition
Drawing from both the legal and nutritional fields, an article in the Columbia Journal of Transnational Law finds a basis for the right to adequate nutrition in international human rights law, provides a diagnostic tool for using a human rights-based approach to address malnutrition, and presents practical recommendations for improving nutrition policy and governance
