Ethiopia: Strengthening capacity in nutrition policies
To further develop a capacity strengthening strategy for improved nutrition monitoring, evaluation, research, and decision making in Ethiopia, the National Information Platform for Nutrition has reviewed the capacity development needs of 23 national institutions involved in nutrition policies.
Enhancing food insecurity and malnutrition analysis in areas with no humanitarian access
The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) initiative has released an updated and advanced third version of its Technical Manual. It expands the range of scales to measure food insecurity, introduces new data requirements to help analyze areas with limited or no humanitarian access, and boosts the IPC's ability to warn about potential famine in contexts where limited data previously was a barrier.
 
Barriers and facilitators to fruit and vegetable consumption among women in rural India
A study published in the Food and Nutrition Bulletin identifies seven perceived barriers and facilitators to consume fruits and vegetables—which are important sources of micronutrients—among rural women of reproductive age in India: (1) personal factors, (2) household dynamics, (3) social and cultural norms, (4) workload, (5) time pressures, (6) environmental factors, and (7) cost.
 
How Artificial Intelligence can enable a sustainable future
Microsoft in association with PwC claims that using Artificial Intelligence for environmental applications could globally create 1 percent net jobs, boost global GDP up to 4.4 percent, and reduce global greenhouse gas emissions by up to 4 percent by 2030 compared to business as usual.
 
2019 GFPR launches in Malawi and Bangladesh
The 2019 Global Food Policy Report launches in Malawi and Bangladesh—two Compact2025 focal countries—highlight the importance of and options for revitalizing rural areas in each country. The Bangladesh launch event featured an address by Muhammad Abdur Razzaque, Minister of Agriculture and Compact2025 Leadership Council member.

Eastern Africa parliamentarians commit to safeguard Right to Food
Recognizing the slow progress in improving the food security and nutrition situation in Eastern Africa, parliamentarians from nine nations in that region have formed the Eastern African Parliamentary Alliance for Food Security and Nutrition (EAPA FSN). They pledged to urge their governments to intensify the battle against food insecurity, malnutrition, and hunger by enacting sound legislation and allocating adequate resources.
