Join the Black Austin Democrats, the Travis County Democratic Party, and other community members at the annual Juneteenth Parade & Festival.
Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day commemorates the date the abolition of slavery was enforced by federal troops in Texas (almost two and a half years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation). The following year, freed men and women organized the first of what became the annual celebration of Juneteenth in Texas. Juneteenth today, celebrates African American freedom and achievement, while encouraging respect for all cultures.
Join us in commemorating this important day in history and celebrating the diversity of our community. See below for more information about how to get involved in this community celebration!
