October is pregnancy and infant loss awareness month. 1 in 4 women experience a loss of a pregnancy or infant.
Our society still is challenged with the right words and support services to address such losses.
I have my own story. I experienced a miscarriage at 11 weeks, a day before New Years Eve. It was devastating after telling our family at Christmas we were pregnant. I was sent home to have a miscarriage, alone, scared and heartbroken. It was a physical and emotional crime scene. There was no follow up by my doctors office. I hemorrhaged a month post miscarriage, as I had placenta still remaining in my uterus. That’s when I was finally taken seriously by the healthcare system. I then had to fight with our insurance company over almost every step of the medical procedure. It was humiliating and dehumanizing.
I hold every one in my heart who has experienced a loss. It is not your fault.
I commit to represent families in Congress to openly discuss this VERY common and complicated situation. We MUST honor and support women and families.
