Hi <<First Name>>

Streamlined Energy & Carbon Reporting (SECR) takes shape and we kick off our Christmas Tree campaign

As the end of the year approaches, we look at what's to come from the new Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR)! We examine what is expected and the implications.

Also, we are proud to announce that Carbon Footprint Ltd's Katie Elmer goes all Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) in this month's Energy Managers Association (EMA) magazine and is presenting at EMEX tomorrow.

We look back at the successful Sustainable Business Network workshops we have had - from ISO 14001, through to getting Drastic on Plastics - and provide you with a link to the free downloadable slide packs.

Finally, we celebrate tree planting and the launch of our Christmas Tree campaign - many of our clients are getting involved and we explain how you can too.

Get Ready for Streamlined Energy & Carbon Reporting

The days of the CRC are now numbered and the countdown to SECR has begun; the new legislation is due in April 2019 with draft guidelines due out later this month!

The headlines:
  • The Climate Change Levy (CCL) is going up - the new rates of energy use have been published.
  • All large entities will be required to annually report their Carbon Footprint within the Director's Report section of their Annual Report and Accounts.
SECR runs alongside ESOS but does not replace it (remember ESOS only runs once every 4 years)! Over the summer, the EA announced that ESOS will remain unchanged by the upcoming Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) that will come into force following the end of the 2018/19 Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) year.

The Environment Agency (EA) recommends getting your ESOS started now (ahead of the 5th December 2019 deadline) to get energy audit recommendations implemented to maximise potential cost savings within your business.

Check out our SECR webpage for more info.

EMEX 21-22 November

The Energy Management Exhibition is on this week at the EXCEL London.

As well as attending, our very own Katie Elmer (ESOS and EAS Lead Assessor) will be on the ESOS panel!
Check out the recent EMA article which even features an interview with Katie discussing ESOS.

If you are attending, let us know if you would like to have a chat whilst there.

It's not too late - register for the EMEX for free.

Remember, if your business is now classed as a large entity (check the qualification criteria) you will need to comply with ESOS Phase 2 even if you were not ‘in’ Phase 1. Contact us if you are unsure if you need to comply or if you want assistance in complying.

Take a look at our ESOS webpage for more information and the ESOS crib sheet.
Sustainability Workshop Resource Packs

With the new year on the horizon, we thought we would recap the great Sustainable Business Network workshops that we have had throughout the year and provide you with a link to download the free slide packs.

Starting off the year in Spring, we had our workshop on environmental management systems (EMS) and ISO 14001:2015. With talks from BSI, AECOM and TAG Farnborough Airport, we explored the benefits of an EMS, the requirements and main changes of ISO 14001:2015 and a case study of achieving ISO 14001:2015 accreditation.

Next was the Drastic on Plastic event which focused on discussion and case studies for identifying and reducing plastic, including the University of Winchester's successful coffee cup surcharge and legislation updates
from lawyers Blake Morgan.

And most recently, it was our Climate Change Adaptation session which was focused on the likely impacts of climate change on businesses and how best to protect your business after the 'Beast from the East' and other climate challenges. This included practical strategies and impact assessments and climate adaptation case studies from UKCIP and Portals Paper.

You can still download these fascinating slide-packs on our resources page and keep an eye out for our upcoming events on our SBN page.

Christmas Tree Planting Campaign

The Christmas adverts are here which means that Christmas is just around the corner!

Each festive season, we hold our Christmas Tree Planting Campaign to encourage businesses and individuals to give back to the environment by planting trees. By supporting tree planting, you can compensate for carbon emissions, support biodiversity and provide educational opportunities.

We are now fully into our tree planting season so we and our clients are getting stuck in with planting in the UK and in Kenya - and you can take part too. Check out our news page and our twitter for updates on our planting.

As tree sponsors, you can support by funding the trees or - as a corporate sponsor - be more hands on and get involved in the planting.
