ESOS & Non Financial Reporting still the law ....despite Brexit
In spite of all the noise and confusion from Brussels and 10 Downing St, 2 key pieces of EU originated sustainability legislation (namely Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme - ESOS - and Non Financial Reporting) are going forward and do need some quick actions- here we update you on what you need to do.
As we approach the festive season, we are launching our annual Christmas Trees campaign - encouraging businesses to support tree planting in UK schools & Kenya, gets behind UN Sustainable Development targets, tackle climate change and help make 2018 the most sustainable year.

 ESOS Phase 2 is here - Does it make sense to act now?
The Environment Agency (EA) is keen that all large entities in the UK consider starting their ESOS Phase 2 now. It may only seem like yesterday that you competed the last one, we hear you say! Not so - the original compliance date for ESOS phase 1 was December 2015 ....though we are aware that many businesses did not comply (for various reasons) until this year.
ESOS Phase 2 runs between Dec 15 and Dec 19 - that means you just over 2 years to comply .... so what's the rush?
Not so much of a rush, this is actually an opportunity to get compliant energy audits done now so that you can make 2 years of saving before you submit the reports - makes sense doesn't it. Also this approach avoids what one of our clients described as 'the almighty panic' at the end of the compliance period

Non-Financial Reporting from Dec 17- Do you need to report on Sustainability?
Non-Financial Reporting comes into force for businesses completing their financial year from end Dec 2017 for large entities (>500 employees) that are deemed also to be within the public interest - so-called Public Interest Entities
- What's a PIE? Broadly this is a business whose shares are traded on a regulated market or provide credit/insurance type financial services
- What will I need to report and where? You will be reporting on aspects such as your business's environmental, employee diversity & human rights performance. The reporting will be alongside your usual annual reporting.

 Tree Planting - for a low Carbon Christmas
As we build up to the festive season it's important to keep sight of your company, its brands and the impact on the environment - for many brands this will be particularly visible.
