Hostetter and Chu Design The Wolves at New York City's Lincoln Center

The Wolves, a new play chronicling the experiences of high school girls through their daily afternoon soccer warmups, opens for previews at Lincoln Center Theater’s Mitzi Newhouse Theater with two CalArtian designers on board. Costume designer Ásta Bennie Hostetter [CD/12] and lighting designer Lap Chi Chu [Fac] are part of the team working on Sarah DeLappe’s play, which was selected as a 2017 Pulitzer Prize finalist. The production, directed by Lila Neugebauer, begins its already sold-out Off-Broadway run with previews on November 1, opening on November 20, and closing on January 7.
From the safety of their suburban stretch circle, The Wolves follows a team as it navigates big questions and wages tiny battles with all the vim and vigor of a pack of adolescent warriors. The play is a portrait of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for nine American girls who just want to score some goals. The play was originally produced last year at The Duke on 42nd Street by The Playwrights Realm, in association with New York Stage & Film and Vassar’s Powerhouse Theatre season. It subsequently returned to the Off-Broadway venue, with additional support from commercial producers Scott Rudin and Eli Bush.

Dalzell Heads Sound For Halloween Horror Nights

Drew Dalzell [Fac|PADT/96] is Principal Sound Designer on Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood, with his company, Diablo Sound, and a team of CalArtians providing sound design and operation services for the event. Fionnegan Murphy [SoD/08] is the Senior Project Manager for Audio and Show Control, Ian Burch [SoD/05] is an audio designer, and Gillian Moon [SoD/16] created media for part of the event. Current students Anna Grossman [SoD/19] and Daniel Gower [SoD/18] worked on the installation of the event.  This year's event features mazes and experiences based on American Horror Story: Roanoke, The Shining, SAW: The Games of Jigsaw, Ash vs Evil Dead, Insidious: Beyond the Further, Jason, Freddy and Leatherface in Titans of Terror, The Purge, Happy Death Day, Sinister, and The Walking Dead.

Valicenti Plays Mysterious Role in Netflix Mindhunter

Sonny Valicenti [A/08] plays the mysterious “ADT Serviceman” in 8 of 10 episodes of the new Netflix thriller, Mindhunter. Based on the book "Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit," and written by real-life F.B.I agent John Douglas, the series muddies fact and fiction, balancing the birth of the F.B.I.’s psychological profiling unit with the occasional case-of-the-week. In nearly every episode, the series stops in Park City, Kansas to check very briefly on the disturbing—but not yet explicitly murderous—behavior of an unnamed, mustached man (Valicenti) who works for ADT Security Services. His character is clearly based on Dennis Rader a.k.a. the B.T.K. Killer, who terrorized the larger Kansas area for nearly 30 years—1974 to 1991—before he was caught in 2005, potentially setting up an even bigger role for Valicenti in the second season.
