From the desk of Rep. Valencia Stovall,
General Elections on November 6th across Georgia will determine leadership and the prosperity of our state. I want to thank God and my voting constituents for allowing me to serve for a 4th term as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives. I will continue to be the voice for those who can't speak for themselves on the issues of Education, Workforce & Training, Healthcare, Safe Communities to live, work and play.

2018 6th Annual Career Job Fair

GoStovall Team of Volunteers served over 100 job seekers and 40 employers/resource agents. Special thanks to the City of Forest Park for their support and partnership this year.

Live Stock Showdown at Georgia National Fair in Perry
This was Rep. Stovall's first time participating where the House vs Senate compete to show off a pig. It was a great experience with the 4H student, Ellie Marchant. She has been showing off animals since 4 years old. Rep. Stovall met her family. Her show pig's name was Olivia aka Porkchop. The HOUSE won the championship again. Rep. Stovall was in 5th place, not bad for a city girl.

Visited the Fort Valley State University booth at the Ga National Fair (Proud Wildcat Alumni). This university has a top agricultural program and promotes it across the state even in the Metro Atlanta area. Each year the legislators receive Goat Soap made exclusively by FVSU. It is a good product.

2018 Georgia PreK Week

Since being elected Rep. Stovall has been participating in Georgia PreK Week during the first week in October. She joins elected officials across the state who read to 4 & 5 year olds. This is a time to promote the importance of literacy at an early age.

2018 Georgia State Board of Education Retreat

Rep. Stovall enjoys attending the retreat to understand upcoming educational issues across the state and nationally. Presentations and visits:

*Turnaround Innovation (schools less than 60 CCRPI score)
*Governor Office of Student Achievement
*School Improvement (schools close to 60 CCRPI score)
*Georgia Film Academy
*Innovative Assessment ( Putnam Co & Cobb Co, Georgia MAP)
*Exemplar Curriculum
*Attended REACH Scholarship at Glynn Co. High School
*Dinner with Governor Deal (spoke on accomplishments on education, justice reform, & more)
*Toured Camden Co. High School CTAE program (see pictures below)
*State Superintendent
*Soft Skills for high school students
*Georgia Foundation for Public Education
*State Board Wrap-Up & Debriefing

Camden County High School on the Coast of Georgia is ranked #1 in dual enrollment. Their school board has made bold decisions on the district budget. All teachers who teach CTAE have Master's Degree paid for in combination with the district and the technical college. The attendees visited the various CTAE departments to speak with the teachers and students. It is clear why this high school earned its ranking. The major question posed by Rep. Stovall and others is why aren't more school districts in metro Atlanta within economically disadvantaged areas maximizing on the dual enrollment program.

Georgia Council for the Arts visits Howard Finster Paradise Garden in Summerville, Ga. As a Commissioner on this board, Rep. Stovall gains a lot of insight on arts across the state. Mr. Finster was a minister who used art to share the Gospel of Christ. Historical fact: his art was featured on the front cover of Rolling Stone's album. http://paradisegardenfoundation.org/

Rep. Stovall also recently attended a forum on "Igniting the Impact of Arts in Our Criminal Justice System" The choir from the Lee Arrendale Women's State Prison graced the attendees with several selections.
