HEALTH CARE AND SENIORS WEEK

I believe it is a human right to have access to affordable health care. - Kimberly

Health Care is the number one concern I hear about from concerned citizens on the campaign trail. There is so much work that needs to be done and so much that is under attack and at stake. On November 10th, the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in a case against the Affordable Care Act (ACA).  The hearing results from a slate of Republican-led states backed by the Trump administration, who argue that the law’s individual mandate is unlawful. As part of the Republican tax scam in 2017, Congress set the individual mandate penalty to $0.  Now the Republicans are arguing that because the mandate is $0, the law is not constitutional.

A ruling striking down the ACA health-care legislation would be catastrophic. More than 11 million Americans who enrolled or re-enrolled in an ACA exchange plan last year, will lose subsidized health insurance plans.  It will also end consumer protections for patients with preexisting health conditions and harm young adults who are allowed to stay on their parents’ health plans until age 26. Losing health care is bad enough, but in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic, it is exponentially worse. The coverage for more than 12 million low-income Americans who have relied on the law’s expansion of the Medicaid program would also be in jeopardy. Trump has repeatedly pledged to produce a health-care plan that would replace the ACA, but has not yet done so, despite frequently claiming that such an agenda would be unveiled within weeks. This is unacceptable.

Seniors are under attack as well; with the Trump administration chipping away at Social Security and Medicare funding, and introducing other plans to reduce benefits that are vital to their lives. I have always been a strong supporter of expanding the Social Security funding income cap beyond $126,000. We all pay into Social Security and Medicare, and our benefits are relied upon in retirement. This is a worker paid program that sustains a social safety net for our seniors. Social Security and Medicare benefit all of us; we pay into it, and we expect the benefits of these payments when our time comes.

Affordable health care and Social Security/Medicare are just a sampling of why it is so important to elect Kimberly Bizon to Michigan’s 10th Congressional District because she will represent people and communities first.

This week is a buy one for Kimberly and Team BIZON. Kimberly has a KimCast interview with an insurance provider to discuss health care and COVID-19. She will also be visiting Operation Transformation's Open House to discuss the needs of Port Huron communities. Later, Kimberly will put on her farmers hat and head to Huron County to harvest navy beans. She will also be speaking at a Unity Rally, a “Wine-ing FUNraising” Event, and a "Tea Party and Fancy Hats" with Kimberly and her mother, Deborah".

THIS WEEK is full of opportunities to help the campaign, have some fun and share your ideas online.
